Lacombe sur Lot - Gite in the beautiful Lot-et-Garonne region

Lacombe is set in seven acres of private land that borders the River Lot, with stunning views. Relax watching the rowers and canoeists or if you're feeling a little energetic yourself take a canoe out yourself. The river also boasts large Carp and Catfish for the intrepid fisherman to catch! Enjoy an apperitif on your private river pontoon or by your enclosed swimming pool. Lacombe sur Lot is just a two minute drive from Sainte Livrade-sur-Lot, a village that has a good choice of shops and a huge market every Friday morning. Bergerac Airport is closest, driving from there will only take about 35 minutes. We are between Bordeaux and Toulouse airports, either drive will take an hour and a half.

The house has four large double sized bedrooms and three bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms have twin beds and the other two have double beds. A cot can also be provided upon request. Three bedrooms are located on the upper floor, one of which is an ensuite with its own private entrance. There is also a bathroom with bath, shower and WC available. On the lower floor is the fourth double bedroom, as well as a separate shower room with WC and basin.

The kitchen is fitted to a high standard with all modern appliances such as cooker, hob, American fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, w/machine and has a large oak dining table that seats eight. The lounge leads off from the kitchen and has comfortable sofas to relax on, as well as TV, video and DVD player, which you can also play CDs on. Double doors lead onto the rear shaded terrace with barbecue facilities and seating for eight, ideal for those hot summer afternoons!

A second terrace is situated on the south side of the house which has sunshine all day and leads to the enclosed private pool area with sun loungers.

Board games, videos, DVDs and table tennis are available at no extra charge, however, a fully refundable deposit is required. There is private access to the river where you can relax and enjoy the view from our pontoon. Large Carp and Catfish are to be found in the river for those of you who like to fish and a handy tackle shop for bait and equipment is located in the nearby village of Ste Livrade. If you prefer to sightsee on the river, canoes can be arranged for your use. Lacombe is superb for families with children, however, please be aware that the river front is not fenced off from the house, so care should be taken with very small children.

Food and Shops
The village market in Ste Livrade (which is only a few minutes by car) is held every Friday where the local farmers sell their fruit and vegetables, wines, cheeses, flowers and loads of other homemade goodies! The town of Villeneuve, which is approximately a 15 minute drive away, holds their market on a Saturday morning in the square - also highly recommended!! Villeneuve also has an eclectic collection of little boutique shops to browse through. For everyday food shopping there are a number of supermarkets in the nearby area. For convenience there is a small supermarket located in Ste Livrade. The larger Auchan hypermarket which has an vast fish section is located on the road to Villeneuve, just a 10 minute drive away.

Restaurants
There are a number of excellent restaurants in the area providing superb dishes of salads, fish, steak, cheeses and desserts at reasonable prices - recommendations are provided in our information file.

Places to See
The countryside is wonderfully scenic with gentle rolling hills, small farms and villages nestling between woods, pastures and arable fields. You can spend a leisurely few days visiting the pretty bastides towns such as Montflanquin, Villereal, Pujols and Penne D'Agenais or visit the local wine districts which include Buzet, Duras, Cahors and Bordeaux, all within an hour's drive of Lacombe. The very attractive medieval town of Saint~Emilion is located north-east of Bordeaux and is certainly worth a visit, filled with wine shops on every corner. You can also visit Landes on the Atlantic coast, where you can climb the highest dune in Europe.

What a fantastic "maison"! - and the pool - superb - many happy lengths spent in that! The river frontage is a real bonus and the depths did yield some fishy treasure. I particularly am so impressed by the showers! This is a truly wonderful base for exploring some beautiful countryside - thank you!
